Palm Oil Free Fragrances from Unicorn Hygienics

The use of palm oil has been at the forefront of environmental concerns recently. Contained in the majority of supermarket products from food, cosmetics, household cleaners and fuel the oil is in high demand but comes at a high cost to the world’s rainforests. Oil palm plants thrive in high humidity and temperatures, making rainforest conditions the ideal location for plantations. Currently 90% of the world’s palm oil is currently being produced in Malaysia and Indonesia, plantations in Indonesia cover 9 million hectares with this predicted to grow to 26 million by 2025.

Tropical deforestation for palm oil plantations has two main effects on the environment; there is an increase in C02 emissions, as trees are cleared, and peatland is burned this releases CO2 emissions stored by the peatland and secondly, there is a vast loss of biodiversity resulting in numerous animals and plants being endangered such as orangutans, Sumatran tigers and Bornean rhinos.

Unicorn Hygienics are dedicated to contributing to a sustainable environment for future generations and actively seeks to eliminate ingredients in our products that are damaging to the environment.  As a direct result, all fragrances from Unicorn Hygienics for use in our range of air fresheners and cleaners and deodorisers do not contain palm oil.
